Education

The Leanita programme aims to promote the sustainable integration of digital education in the teaching process of African institutions of higher education and technical institutes in STEM disciplines, as a means to strengthen the quality of teaching as well as the competencies of graduates.

These institutions will be provided with the means to transform their educational curricula by integrating modern digital education methods. This will lay the foundations for the launch of the Digital Education component of the Excellence in Africa initiative. The key element of each partnership will be the creation and the development of a Platform of Competence in Digital Education (P-CoDE).

By encouraging the use of innovative digital technologies in educational practices, the aim is to strengthen the techno-pedagogical skills of instructors and to train them in the production of digital content and its use in online courses. The initiative will proceed in two steps, to:

  1. enable the youth in these three continents (Africa, Asia and Latin America) to acquire the necessary technical skills and capacity. Such a Centre will contribute to the design, production and dissemination of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Open Educational Resources (OER). The faculty of participating institutions will also be trained in the integration of ICT-enabled teaching methods.
  2. extend the Platform’s sphere of activity to serve other TriContinental institutions, for instance within a broader linguistic or geographical region.

For the platform to have long-term institutional impact and be transformative, the partner institutions commit to:

  • Integrate the use of the resources produced by the Platform in their educational programmes
  • Encourage the pooling and sharing of digital educational resources
  • Boost the development of new teaching practices by motivating and supporting the lecturers engaged in this venture, at first within the institution and then more broadly.

HEALTH SUPPORT

  • To monitor the health and demographic status of geographically dispersed populations through research and focused network.
  • To initiate and facilitate longitudinal health and social studies and impact assessment in severely resource-constrained populations and disseminate study findings with all external stake holders to maximize impact on policy and practice.
  • To support capacity building and facilitate the process for donors to fund multi-site health and social research projects in the developing world.

RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY

Research is the foundation for successful advocacy. It is important for both: An effective advocacy strategy – by enabling thorough strategic analysis; and Successful advocacy work – by providing authoritative and accurate evidence to support advocacy.

Advocacy seeks to ensure that all people in society are able to: Have their voice heard on issues that are important to them. Protect and promote their rights. Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives.

LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE

The concept of governance and leadership are intertwined. Good governance and leadership is critical for the achievement of results. It is often said that no country can develop beyond the level of its leadership.

Probity, Accountability, Corruption, Citizenship, Transformational Agenda and Societal changes are our focal points.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

(i) to inculcate the values of good governance and leadership as necessary catalyst to satisfactory development of any society

(ii) to establish in society the need for leadership commitment and good governance as fundamental to the survival and progress of any nation

(iii) to offer solution to poor governance as well as ineffectual anti-corruption policies in Africa and other places needed

(iv) to advocate for useful recommendations to policy makers at the various tiers of government which will be beneficial when faithfully implemented.

MINING AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Mineral exploitation contributes significantly to economic growth and development in most world

economies. At the same time, mining companies are called on to extract with responsibility, produce with less waste, use safer processes, incorporate new sustainable technologies, promote the improved wellbeing of local communities, curb emissions, and improve environmental stewardship.

The mining sector in Ghana consists of both small-scale and large-scale mining, each of which has varying environmental impacts. Eventhough International Organisation for Standardisation and other local governmental organisations monitor the activities of large-scale mining, findings from studies showed that mining activities, especially that resulting from illegal small-scale mining (popularly known as ‘galamsey’) deplete environmental resources such as water, soil, the landscape, vegetation, the ecosystem, among others.

Leanita will do more research and advocate for the inclusion of professionals (geologists, Geomatic Engineers, Environmental Engineers, Health and Safety Officers, Mining Engineers and Metallurgists)

To be mandatorily part of all small-scale or community-based mining activities to ensure responsible and professional mining as the regulatory authorities also ensure mining is done in an environmentally sustainable way.

HUMAN RIGHTS

Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more.  Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination.
